Description
This course deals with the fundamental mathematical tools frequently applied in social sciences, humanities and fine arts. Selected portions of mathematics are chosen to develop an appreciation for the importance of mathematics in today’s world. Mathematical concepts are approached through applications. Topics may include: Social Choice: critical thinking and understanding logical arguments; Shape, Growth and Form: exponential and logarithmic models, mathematics of consumer finance and amortization; and Statistics: Collecting Data, Describing Statistics, Chances and Probability.
Placement in the class is through the mathematics department. Students may be required to take a lab component depending on their score on the placement exam.
