Description

This course includes instruction in organizing literacy instruction for subject area teachers, use of protocols for oral language development, strategies for word skill and writing development, strategies for reading comprehension, and literacy assessment strategies for candidates seeking an adolescence to young adult license. The course explores literacy as a social practice, examining how such a view supports learner inquiry and culturally responsive teaching within the disciplines. Students in the course are trained to recognize dyslexia, exploring numerous strategies to instruct through and augment into their pedagogy in support of struggling readers.
