Description

Pre- or Concurrent Requisite(s): MT 109 or higher
Concurrent Requisite(s): CH 101L
This is the first part of a survey course that covers rudimentary chemistry concepts in inoraganic, organic, and biochemistry. This course sequence covers atomic and molecular structure, intermolecular forces, stoichiometry, acid/base reactions, redox reactions, gases, kinetics, fundamental thermodynamics, and nuclear chemistry in the inorganic portions. The organic portions cover nomenclature, functional groups, basic reaction mechanisms, polymers and an introduction to pharmaceutical chemistry. The biochemistry portions will cover chemistry of common cellular processes including energy production, biomolecule structures, nucleotides, and protein synthesis and characterization.

This course satisfies the first semester of the chemistry requirement for admission to the Biology B.A. major for pre-nursing, pre-pt, pre-ot advising tracks ONLY. This course sequence does not satisfy the pre-requis
