Description

Teacher candidates for early childhood are instructed in the methodology, strategies and techniques of teaching competencies in writing. Candidates demonstrate mastery of basic components of written language, including the grammar of standard written English, sentence types and structures and text types and purposes. Candidates gain an understanding of language demands specific to writing purposes and types and major theories of writing processes and language acquisition as it pertains to written communication. Candidates demonstrate proficiency in developing meaningful and in
writing and demonstrate an understanding of the reading-writing connection. Students become competent in assessment practices designed to optimize student progress in developing writing skills. Candidates use the Ohio Learning Standards to frame instruction.
