Introduction to Equine Massage Therapy Summer 2023

This class provides scientific and experiential-based instruction in equine massage therapy. Topics covered are equine functional anatomy, biomechanics, posture vs. compensation, causes of pain, and benefits/contraindications of massage therapy. Students will learn to evaluate and improve the muscular health and developments of a horse. Hands-on training includes a full-body sports massage routine, with an introduction to stretching, trigger point therapy and other rehabilitative massage techniques.

Equine Assisted Learning and Psychotherapy Fall 2023

 A comprehensive introduction to the theory and methods of equine assisted psychotherapy and equine assisted learning. This course focuses on how the equine specialist and mental health professionals work together in equine assisted psychotherapy. In classroom presentations, students will survey a variety of equine assisted learning and psychotherapy models. Lab experiences with horses will provide an opportunity to practice in the EAGALA model. Founded in 1999, the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA) is a leading international nonprofit association for professional using equine assisted psychotherapy to address mental health and human development needs. This course is recommended for students studying equine therapeutic horsemanship, psychology, education, biology and a variety of other majors. Equine experience is not required.

Issues in Supply Chain Management Fall 2023

This course allows students to understand both the components of supply chain management and its role within the function and across other functions in an enterprise. The objective of supply chain management is to create value, build a competitive infrastructure, leverage worldwide logistics, synchronize supply with demand, and measure performance globally. Logistics is part of the supply chain, which deals with storage and distribution of goods and services, in the right quantity, right condition, at the right time, and in the right place. The goal of this course is to provide a high-level overview of the supply chain function and related concepts and to provide an understanding of the activities involved. The course will introduce students to some challenges in managing global supply chains. The course will also provide an opportunity to students to explore a real-life situation related to concepts taught in the class, and do a research project.
